ACP-EU representatives in the JPA

The Joint Parliamentary Assembly shall be composed of equal numbers of EU and ACP representatives from national parliaments.The role of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly, as a consultative body, is to:

  • promote democratic processes through dialogue and consultation;
  • facilitate greater understanding between the peoples of the European Union and those of the ACP States and raise public awareness of development issues;
  • discuss issues pertaining to development and the ACP-EU Partnership;
  • adopt resolutions and make recommendations to the Council of Ministers with a view to achieving the objectives of this Agreement.
  • The role of the ACP-EU JPA as a political body has been increasing in recent years reflected by a growing number of ACP parliamentarians attending and the substantive debates held. As a result, Belgian Member of European Parliament Alain Hutchinson has drafted a report on the work of the ACP-EU JPA in 2007.

Here is the list of national representatives from ACP countries who participated in the 2008 JPA and whom you can contact to know more about the EU-ACP partnership or to input on it. You can also contact the EU representatives.
