Gender equality is key to poverty eradication. UNIFEM reports that 70% of the world's poor are women but only 3.6% of official development assistance is devoted to gender equality. If the world's donor leaders are serious about eliminating poverty, there should be dramatic increases in financing for gender equality and women empowerment.

The EU supports gender equality through the Investing in People (en/fr) which aims to focus on the human development. The breakdown of the budget allocations are presented in the annexes (en/fr)
