Gender equality is key to poverty eradication. UNIFEM reports that 70% of the world's poor are women but only 3.6% of official development assistance is devoted to gender equality. If the world's donor leaders are serious about eliminating poverty, there should be dramatic increases in financing for gender equality and women empowerment.
